Tara gets her first tattoo!

Okay... it's not real but it's cool nonetheless.

I got a body paint stain temporary tattoo thingy of the evolt.org logo on the back of my head. I promised I'd get it done for thechat.

The fabulous Holly of Henna by Holly did travelled across the city early on Saturday morning to do it for me at my house on very short notice. She did a *wicked* job, I think, I've only seen photos of it though :-).

I would highly recommend Holly. She's really nice and cool and good at her job - both of them (turns out she does web design too). You can book her to do henna work for a personal appointment, a hen night, a corporate party... whatever. I'd totally do it in the future. Anyway, she does stuff at Henna by Holly and Monster Mehndi.

See more photos of my shaved head and scroll to the bottom for tattoo pics.

I'm BALD

So I'm bald...

I raised $900.45 for the Canadian Cancer Society. Got my head shaved. So did my Dad. It was all good. Except now I'm cold all the time.

Here are the photos of my dad and I getting our heads shaved for Cops for Cancer.

It was pretty crazy actually. There were tons of people there watching; crowding around the *stage*. Yes a stage! There were a couple of official photographers and tons of people with cameras.

The first woman who went up was a professor who'd been teaching at UofT for 39 years. She was retiring. She got all teary as the clippers buzzed away the first strips of hair. She promised her students a wild looking prof...

...she had her hair done in a mohawk and then went off to the bathroom spiked it up with blue gel and put on a dog collar and studded cuffs! She rawked out!

My dad and I were the third couple to go up. The announcer called out our names and rattled through a little blurb about each of us. As the clippers buzzed the first strips off me I thought to myself "there's *really* no turning back now." It didn't take long. My hair was gone in a couple of minutes.

I turned to look at my dad. He was totally bald too. Like a little bald baby! So cute :-)

We hung out and watched everyone else get their heads shaved. We gave over our money. After it was all done we had our "after photos" taken and we presented a giant stage cheque for $10,900ish (it wasn't exactly 900 but I can't remember what the other numbers were) to the Canadian Cancer Society.

All in all a great day. Thank you again to all the people who were so supportive and to the very generous people who sponsored me. Karma points for all of you ;-)

PS. I'm still looking for a henna tattoo place that'll do my head. I'll put up photos of the evolt.org tattoo when I get it done.

I'm blue... so donate some money

Well, I've gone and done it. I've dyed my hair blue. But it's all for a good cause.

Tara with blue dye in her hair - a smiling self-portrait

You see...

My dad got asked to shave his head and beard for Cops for Cancer (he's not a cop... regular people participate too) at his school.

The story of Cops for Cancer

Cops for Cancer started when a little boy who was going through chemo got teased for being bald. A cop took photos of himself (he was bald) with the kid to show the kid's classmates that being bald was cool. It caught on, and a bunch of cops shaved their heads in support of this kid and went to his school to show the other kids. They started doing it every year and raising money for the Canadian Cancer Society when they did it. Soon more people started joining in and now it's one of the national fund raisers for the Cancer Society.

I, very belatedly, decided to join in. I have dyed my hair blue in the meantime for fun and also to get people to ask me about it so I can hit them up for a donation. I'm going to shave my head on March 30th and I'm looking for sponsors to donate money (that means YOU!).

I'm taking donations at Paypal. I can't give tax receipts over the internet, but I will keep a tally on here and I'll donate the internet-based proceeds to the Canadian Cancer Society. For my friends and family I can probably get you a tax receipt if you want to give me moolah in person.

I am trying to raise $500 CAD by March 30th and it's going to be tough. I'm calling in all favours. I'm beggin' for your hard-earned dollars. Please donate to the Cancer Society.

So far I've had $734 (approximately) in pledged amounts (whoo hoo! keep up the good work!) and actually collected $420.85.

I've had donations from all over the world - as far flung as India and Iceland - but lots from the US and the UK and, of course from Canada too. Wow. The internet is an amazing thing. ;-)

Update: I have also agreed to get a henna tattoo of the evolt.org logo if members of thechat list donate $150.

Update again: Thechat managed to scrounge the money from between the couch cushions and came up collectively with over $150. So... sorry Dave, it looks like I'm getting an evolt.org tattoo! Photos will be up as soon as I get it done.

Thanks thechat!

Donate by Paypal or if you're in Canada you can do it through an Interac Email Money Transfer
