06/17/2002 Archived Entry: "Cool things we found in our walls"

So after a few hectic week(end)s of demolishing the entire bloody first floor of our new house (only two of the outer walls left complete! - all other walls down, all ceilings down, all tile from hallway and kitchen and most of the concrete and metal lath removed - GUTTED), I've decided to make a list of all the cool things we found in the walls:

  1. One ball of string

  2. One china teacup (very dusty)

  3. One sheet of very old (at least 50 years old) homework ("I'm sorry teacher, my walls ate my homework!")

  4. One package (empty) of Sweet Caporal Cigarettes (10 pack)

  5. One very old, mildewy and mangled children's book. It has a plate in the front saying that it was given to a kid for good work in Sunday School. Copyright 1902.

  6. A few pages of the 1967 phone book

  7. One receipt made out to a Mrs. Taylor and dated June 11, 1908, for 10 cents worth of sarsparilla!

  8. No dead animals (yet)

We have about 4 tons of construction waste in the back yard to be picked up tomorrow, and a few more bits to finish (a few patches of tile, the wall around the stairs... arrrggggh! It'll never be finished) and then we'll start on construction. I'll have photos up soon - but for now I'm going to go soak in the tub!
