12/05/2003 Archived Entry: "Fishy Fishy Fishies"
Last weekend Dave and I went to Petsmart and bought an aquarium. After much debate and hemming and hawing we decided to get a whole new - but small 10 gallon - tank instead of using Dave's old 30 gallon. It's better this way. I can have a little tank in my office that makes me happy, and it'll be small enought to move around and not require special stands, furniture, or floor reinforcement. We did decide, however, to get a huge huge tank and build it into the bar in the basement if all goes well with the little tank.
So we got 8 fish. 3 neon tetras, 3 albino glo-lite tetras, on silver hatchet and one serpae tetra. I love them all. They are so cute in their fabulous fishiness. It's really hard to take decent pictures of fish without a very good camera. So I've linked to other people's pictures of the same kind of fish that I have. So here's the hatchet fish, neon tetras, and the serpae tetra. And a photo of my serpae tetra. I couldn't find a picture of an albino glo-lite tetra so you'll just have to use one of my photos.
I've discovered the best way to take photos of my fish is to set up a work light (like a construction work light) so that it shines into the tank. Set my digicam (ancient dinosaur of tech that it is) to sunset mode and manual focus.
Okay I'll stop now. This is becoming way too much like a typical "My Pet Cat" site. Only it's even more pathetic because it's about fish. And, though they are cool looking, they aren't soft and cuddly. (I'm allergic to all cute and cuddly animals - that's why we got the fish).
Oh yah and another thing... why are all the aquarium/ fish hobby sites so awful. Hard to navigate, lots of flashing crap, terrible colours... very 1996. Anyone out there in the fishy industry that needs a decent web site give me a shout.

This is my 100th post. Yay me! No prizes though. Sorry. Back to our regularly scheduled programming.
