MACCAWS gets going!

So, VKIT (the temporary name) has turned into MACCAWS. MACCAWS stands for Making A Commercial Case for Adopting Web Standards. We've got a super-duper new web site, a proposed mission statement (thanks to Craig Saila) and we've even been mentioned by Zeldman on his daily report!

Now to get down to writing the white paper...

Full speed ahead!

There's a hole in the bucket dear Liza, dear Liza

Bad Web Design Umm... Barf. Apparently cost a million pounds.

If you'd like to try to end the practice of companies spending obscene amounts of money on sites that many many people can't use or see and you want to see more standards compliant sites, then join VKIT (temporary name) today.

Quoting my own evolt post:

"I think someone should make a kit for designers and developers to give to their bosses. A kit that has all the arguments, studies, as much info as possible, for valid code, from a financial as well as "it's good for the future of the web" perspective aimed at company owners, managers, clients etc."

And from the VKIT site:
"However, no such “kit” exists. The purpose of the group is to see if some kind of "kit" can be put together - that will validate the use of standards compliant code while showing all the benefits that such authoring offers to clients, partners and business owners everywhere."

Tom Dell'Aringa aka pixelmech started the Yahoo group with this aim in mind. We're trying to get as many people involved as possible. Also "higher profile" web people would be great to put some weight behind the project. So if you know anyone, pass on the word.

Is DreamweaverMX good enough for standards compliance?

Apparently WaSP and Macromedia have been working together to ensure that the newest version of Dreamweaver produces standards compliant and accessible code. WaSP has put out its review of DreamweaverMX; assessing it based on the original objectives set out when they started working with Macromedia. So if you are considering buying the new DreamweaverMX, this article should help you make a decision.

My life as the biggest dust bunny you've ever seen...

So, we're finished demolition. I've forbidden Dave from knocking any more walls down. But he tries to rationalize with me, "well we need to knock down this entire wall so we can put a 5 inch duct on this corner of it". Yeah, like I'm going to agree that that is reasonable. I don't think so. NO MORE KNOCKING DOWN WALLS. Yes, I am sick of cleaning up dust. I'm sick of being smelly and dirty. I'm sick being covered in little red punture wounds from nails. I just keep repeating to myself "it'll be really nice when it's done... it'll be really nice when it's done".

I've got photos of the house before and during the demolition. If you'd like to see absolute chaos and a photographic representation of your money and sanity going down the drain then check the photos out...
